I am doing some research on my grandfathers service during W.W.II and found your very informative website. He was in Okinawa on the USS Minotaur ARL-15 from April 44 to Nov 45 and took many photos that I have just gotten scanned. I have included one in this email and was wondering if its the Pennsylvania in Buckner Bay. She is sitting low in the stern so there is a good chance that it was after the torpedo attack. The picture is marked CL-38 because I thought it was a Light Cruiser CL-38. Any help you could give me would be great, I'm always looking for information. Again, great job on your web site and thanks for the information in advance.

Dave,
Great shots you have. Yes it is the Pennsy but I am not sure about the Buckner Bay. Do the photos say Buckner? If it does then it is. Here is a close up of the Pennsy the next day after the torpedo hit the ship.
As you can see there are several support ships along side and I am wonder where they are in this photo. My first thought was that it could have been several days after the torpedo and it was waiting to get towed. What do you think? I will put the pictures on the site in a day or so along with your address (if you don't mind) and maybe one of the crewman can shed some light on it, OK?
Here is the same shot but from on board, great pics huh?
Anyway, thanks for the photos, got any more? I will let you know if I find out anything else

Ken,
Thanks for getting back to me so quick. I'm pretty certain that it is in Buckner Bay only because it was where my Grandfather, George Nevers did his service. I can tell you from the looks of the crane on the vessel to port on that first picture, I believe that to be from an ARL. All the photos I have are from Okinawa and Buckner Bay except for a few of the surrender in Tokyo on the Mighty Mo. I would be happy to send them on, there are allot of the aftermath of Typhoon Louise as well. Hope you enjoy them and thanks for the mention on the photos, I would really like to get more info on all of them.
